Seekers, Sinners & Me
Walking, love and gratitude
Written by Kirsten McHugh
Published by Broadcast Books
‘To have Jack determinedly walking with me was his precious gift. I had heard other pilgrims talking of the transformative powers of the Camino. God knows, I could do with some transformation, but I didn't dare hope for anything so fancy. All I cared about was having this chance to reconnect with my beloved Jack.’
A compelling, lyrical and life-affirming memoir about love and gratitude.
In the shadow of a cancer diagnosis, Kirsten and Jack pause their busy lives to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Passing through remote villages and stirring landscapes, they rediscover a deeper connection with each other.
In Seekers, Sinners & Me, Kirsten McHugh shares memories of their lives together, while immersing readers in the people, history and places of the Camino.
With warmth, honesty and humour, Kirsten inspires us to make the time to stop and reflect and perhaps discover a new direction in our own lives.
Featuring Kirsten’s beautiful line drawings at the start of each chapter.
“Kirsten McHugh has totally overhauled one of the great memoir genres of our time, the Camino to Santiago de Compostela. Using words with dazzling, imaginative flair, she has written a book of dynamic energy, bursting with wit and verve; edgy in its acute, demanding self-examination, detouring into odd by-ways such as cheese making and the push for Catalonian independence, and populated with a host of the walking stories about that 1200-year-old trail. And, above all, swelling with love for her companion on the journey, her cancer-stricken husband.”

About the author
Kirsten McHugh tried her hand at being a check-out chick, a backpacker, a waitress, a barista, a back-up singer, a sous chef, and a legal researcher. In 2002 she established and managed a small tea plantation on the NSW South Coast. In 2012 she became Head Cheesemaker and Chef at the Schoolhouse, a business she started with her husband, Jack, in Gerringong. In 2017 Kirsten and Jack ran away from real life and walked the Camino, 800 kilometres from the French Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela. When Jack fell ill in May 2018, requiring a return to Sydney, Kirsten had a chance to do what she had always wanted … write about it.
